And some more...

Lynda commented on my previous post and asked me how I made the blue linen fabric. I thought maybe someone else might be interested to read about this too.

For this method of resistdyeing you use blocks. You need two blocks in the same size and shape. The blocks we used were made out of wood but you can use anything that has a flat surface.


You fold the fabric and put a block on each side, like a burger in a bun. Then you fasten it with clamps and shove the whole thing into the dye pot.


If you put many layers of fabric together you will find that the pieces in the middle won’t get as much dye on them as the top and bottom ones. These pieces were dyed in one big pile.





If the blocks have cracks in them you’ll get a pattern.

With the blue piece I folded the fabric that was hanging outside the blocks and wraped it around the blocks. Then I tied a string around it, like you do with a roast. That’s how I got all the different shades around the white square.
