TIF update

This is my TIF piece so far. Wasn't planing to do any more stitching but yesterday I went to a lecture that made me think differently.

The lecture was about imagination and the creative process. When I look back and try to remember things I often realise that all I remember are short glimpses of conversations or situations. Then my imagination helps to fill out the gaps and turn my memories into stories.

I think that the things we remember or know are just fragments. We need to connect them in order for it to make sense. We create an understanding. The tool we have to make the connection is our imagination.

One of the things I learned at the lecture is that modern science says that adults have more imagination then children. The explanation is that adults have more experience and that´s essential for the imagination.

Does any of this make sense? Any thoughts on this?

Anyway, back to the embroidery. I've decided that I need to connect my fragments. So more stitching ahead. And I'm going to put my imagination into use :-)

I would agree with you about your imaginaion filng in the gaps, ellie my ittle one always remembers things so much more literally than I do. Love the concept and the stitching is just lovely.

Den blir bra Annica! jag gillar speciellt där du broderat ringar lite utanför på den rosa-lila lappen!

I think that you are correct about having more imagination when we are adults. I think the problem is that we are not as comfortable using it as when we were children. Our creativity grows as we get older, I think they walk hand in hand. I'm looking forward to seeing where your project goes next.

I look forward to seeing what you add to this, I like the feelings I get from it, but I think there is room for more connection...

Sounds like a really interesting lecture. Real food for thought.

I really like the piece that came from this.
I like the way you have allowed our imagination to connect the pieces.

The fact that adults have more imagination because of experience has really got me thinking - I must say I agree.Really like your TIF for February, waiting to see the connections and the piece complete.

Annica hello, I love how this is coming along. You are getting me in the mood to do some crazy quilting.
I think in someways adults do have more imagination, but many are inhibited by other experiences or pressure to fit in society. Children are more free and encouraged to use their imaginations. I think they have less pressure and fear of color and matching,ie; a sun doesnt have to be yellow.

What a cool little piece you have going on here -- thought provoking under its own power -- but NOW with your scientific hypothesis on "imagination", even more so. I love art that makes me think and gets me excited. Very cool.

This is so strange. Your ideas about memory and the way you have dealt with the concept so far, is so similar to what my friend Laurie Frick has been exploring in her new collage work. She started out a painter and has just finished her MFA, having her first big New York show in November. Here is a link to her website: www.lauriefrick.com.

Looking forward to seeing how it has progressed
